Replacing a host interface adapter

To replace a faulty host interface adapter with a new one received from CRU / FRU stock, use this procedure.

For lists of supported host interface adapters, refer to System replaceable units.

Complete the following steps to replace a host interface adapter.

  1. Complete Procedure: Removing a node canister to remove the node canister containing the faulty host interface adapter.
  2. Remove any small form-factor pluggable SFP transceiver from each rear-facing port of the host interface adapter and put safely to one side.
  3. Remove the lid of the canister, as described in Procedure: Removing and replacing lid of a node canister.
  4. Identify the location of the host interface adapter.

  5. Locate the host interface adapter retaining thumbscrew 1 on the rear-facing side of the canister. Loosen the thumbscrew until it is detached from the host interface adapter. The thumbscrew remains attached to the canister.
  6. Gently pull the host interface adapter clear of the connector, then carefully remove it from the canister.
  7. Remove the replacement host interface adapter from its package.
  8. Position the replacement host interface adapter inside the canister, ensuring the tab at the end of the mounting bracket is aligned with the catch slot at the end of the host interface adapter aperture and the connecting edge of the replacement host interface adapter is aligned with the slot in the connector.
  9. Apply pressure to the edge of the host interface adapter opposite the connecting edge to push the host interface adapter into the connector.
  10. Check that the host interface adapter is installed squarely in its slot and tighten the retaining thumbscrew on the outside of the canister.
  11. Replace the canister lid, as described in Procedure: Removing and replacing lid of a node canister.
  12. If any SFP transceiver devices were removed from the rear-facing ports of the host interface adapter in step #v3700_rplc_HIC/remove_sfp, ensure each one is reinstalled by completing the installation steps of Replacing an SFP transceiver.
  13. Reinstall the canister into the enclosure from which it was removed in step #v3700_rplc_HIC/remove_canister. The node canister starts.
  14. Reconnect the cables to the canister, ensuring cables go into the same ports from which they were removed in step #v3700_rplc_HIC/remove_canister.
  15. When the canister is back online, check the event log for any new events relating to hardware changes.
