Installing the fixed power supply

When you install the fixed power supply, observe the following precautions.

CAUTION
Never remove the cover on a power supply or any part that has the following label attached.

Hazardous voltage, current, and energy levels are present inside any component that has this label attached. There are no serviceable parts inside these components. If you suspect a problem with one of these parts, contact a service technician.

To install the fixed power supply, do the following:

  1. Install the fixed power supply.
    1. Position the power supply on the chassis.
    2. Push the power supply toward the rear of the server until the power supply engages the chassis.
    3. Install the screws to secure the power supply to the chassis.

  2. Connect the internal power-supply cables from the power supply to the power supply connector and CPU power connector on the system board. To locate the power connectors on the system board, see System-board connectors.
  3. Route the internal power-supply cables, securing them with the retention clips.
  4. Test the power supply:
    1. Connect one end of the ac power cord for the new power supply into the power supply connector, and connect the other end of the power cord into a properly grounded electrical outlet. Make sure that the standby power LED on the system board is lit. See System-board LEDs.
    2. If the standby power LED is not lit, discontinue this procedure and obtain a new power supply.
    3. Press the power-control button. Make sure that the power-on LED on the front of the server is lit.
    If the server starts, proceed to the next step. If the server does not start, disconnect the ac power cord and call for service.
  5. Turn off the server and disconnect the ac power cord.
  6. Complete the parts replacement. See Completing the parts replacement.
  7. Press the power-control button. Make sure that the power-on LED on the front of the server is lit.
