About Fibre Channel port-name identification

The format and content of the Fibre Channel (FC) port identifier are determined by the manufacturer of the link control facility for the applicable Fibre Channel port. The identifier is an eight-byte field, which the Fibre Channel protocols use to uniquely identify the Fibre Channel port.

The worldwide port name (WWPN) consists of 16 hexadecimal characters (0 - 9 and A - F). The system uses the WWPN to uniquely identify the Fibre Channel host interface adapter that is installed in your host. The system automatically finds the WWPN for your host Fibre Channel host interface adapter when you attach your host to the system.
Note: Each Fibre Channel port has a unique WWPN. There are 1 or more ports per host interface adapter, and therefore 1 or more WWPNs per host interface adapter. Each host interface adapter port has a unique WWPN that must be added to the host object.
