Concurrent maintenance is the capability to complete I/O
operations to an HP MA or EMA system while simultaneously completing
maintenance operations on it.
Note: HP MA and EMA maintenance documentation uses the phrase rolling upgrade in place
of concurrent maintenance. See this documentation because in some instances you must
reduce the level of I/O before you can complete the maintenance procedure.
The HP MA and EMA systems allow concurrent replacement of the following components:
- Drive
- EMU
- Blower
- Dual power supply (One unit can be removed and replaced. The fan speed increases when only one
power supply unit is present.)
The controller component is hot-pluggable, but concurrent maintenance of
system I/O
is not supported.
The HP MA and EMA systems do not allow concurrent replacement of the following components:
- Single power supply (in a single power-supply configuration, the enclosure is disabled when the
power supply fails.)
- SCSI bus cables
- I/O module
- Cache
