Lenovo Storage V series system systems can support Storwize V3500 or Storwize V3700 systems for use as external storage.
The Storwize V3500 or Storwize V3700 system must be configured as a storage layer system, which is the default setting. See the System layers topic for further details.
To configure storage for system use, complete these general tasks on a Lenovo V series system:
The volumes that are presented by the storage layer system are viewed in the Lenovo Storage V series system managed disk (MDisk) view. The storage system is displayed in the Lenovo Storage V series system view with a vendor ID of IBM.
The Storwize V3500 or Storwize V3700 for Lenovo support quorum disks. Lenovo Storage V series system systems can use MDisks that are presented by a Lenovo V series system as a quorum disk.
Lenovo Storage V series system systems can use storage that is presented by a Storwize V3500 or Storwize V3700 system in a storage layer, but Metro Mirror and Global Mirror cannot interoperate between the two systems. Lenovo Storage V series system can participate in Metro Mirror and Global Mirror partnerships only with other replication layer systems; storage layer systems can participate in Metro Mirror and Global Mirror partnerships only with other storage layer systems.
For more information, see the Metro Mirror and Global Mirror partnerships topic.
Volumes that are defined on a storage layer system can be used by the replication layer system as a source or target for advanced copy functions such as FlashCopy, Metro Mirror, and Global Mirror. Storwize V3500 or Storwize V3700 advanced copy functions are not supported for volumes that are used as MDisks.
