Planning for configuration

Use the following worksheets to record configuration data that you need as you install a system.

Lenovo Storage V series enclosures

One or two management addresses must be allocated for the system. The first management address is assigned for use on Ethernet port 1 of each node canister. If a second management address is allocated, then the system assigns this address for use on Ethernet port 2 of each node canister. The system assigns the management addresses to one node canister in the system at any time to provide access to system configuration and administration functions such as the management GUI. IPv4 and IPv6 protocols can be used.

Lenovo Storage V series Ethernet ports lists the Lenovo Storage V series systems and the Ethernet ports for each system.
Table 1. Lenovo Storage V series Ethernet ports.

Summary of Ethernet ports

Model Port numbers Description
Lenovo Storage V3700 V2

Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 XP

1 1 GbE onboard used for configuration/management and iSCSI or IP replication.
2/T 1 GbE onboard functions as a technician port for initial setup, and then can be used for configuration/management and iSCSI or IP replication after cluster creation. Optionally, the technician port function can be reenabled.
Note: All other functions (management, iSCSI, and so on) are disabled if the technician port is turned on.
3, 4, 5, 6 Optional 1 or 10 GbE adapter ports that can be used only for iSCSI, FCoE, or IP replication.
Lenovo Storage V5030 and Lenovo Storage V5030F T Provides access for technicians. to perform initialization and service tasks. Not for configuration/management.
1, 2 10 GbE onboard used for configuration/management and iSCSI or IP replication.
3, 4, 5, 6 Optional 1 or 10 GbE adapter ports that can be used only for iSCSI, FCoE, or IP replication.

A service address is also allocated to Ethernet port 1 of each node canister in the enclosure. The node canister retains the service IP address, providing convenient access to node canister configuration and service functions, such as the service assistant GUI and CLI for that node canister. IPv4 and IPv6 protocols can be used.

In addition to the Ethernet ports that are used to connect and manage the system, the Ethernet port that is labeled T is the technician port.
Important: Do not connect the technician port to a switched network. When service is required, a personal computer is connected directly to the technician port for initialization and troubleshooting tasks.

The management IP address is required when the system is initialized. Use Management IP address configuration to record the management IP addresses allocated for use by the system.

Table 2. Management IP address configuration.

Summary of management IP address configuration

Configuration item Value Description
Port 1
Management IPv4 address   IPv4 address that is used for configuration and access to the system.
Gateway IPv4 address   IPv4 address for the default local gateway for the system
IPv4 subnet mask   IPv4 subnet mask, which identifies the IPv4 network on which the system is operating.
Management IPv6 address   IPv6 address that is used for configuration and access to the system.
Gateway IPv6 address   IPv6 address for the default local gateway for the system.
IPv6 prefix   The system prefix, which identifies the IPv6 network on which the system is operating.
Port 2 (optional)
Management IPv4 address   IPv4 address that is used for configuration and access to the system.
Gateway IPv4 address   IPv4 address for the default local gateway for the system
IPv4 subnet mask   IPv4 subnet mask, which identifies the IPv4 network on which the system is operating.
Management IPv6 address   IPv6 address that is used for configuration and access to the system.
Gateway IPv6 address   IPv6 address for the default local gateway for the system.
IPv6 prefix   The system prefix, which identifies the IPv6 network on which the system is operating.
Use Service IP address configuration to plan the service addresses required to conduct service actions on individual node canisters.
