Configuring the IBM DS6000

The IBM DS6000 provides functions that are compatible with the system node.

After you define at least one storage complex, storage unit, and I/O port, you can define thesystem node as a host and create host connections. If you did not define all of these required storage elements, use the IBM DS6000 Storage Manager or the IBM DS6000 command-line interface (CLI) to define these elements and continue with the following procedure after they are configured.

This task assumes that you already started the IBM DS6000 Storage Manager.

To configure the IBM DS6000, complete the following steps.

  1. Click Real-time manager > Manage hardware > Host systems.
  2. Select Create from the Select Action list.
    The Create Host System wizard is displayed.
  3. Complete the following steps to select a host type.
    1. Select IBM SAN Volume Controller from the Host Type list.
    2. Enter a unique name of up to 16 characters for each port in the Nickname field.
      The value that you enter in this field is displayed in other pages when you select defined hosts. This field is required.
    3. Optional: Enter a detailed description of up to 256 characters in the Description field.
    4. Click Next.
      The Define host wizard window is displayed.
  4. Complete the following steps in the Define host page.
    1. Enter the number of ports that you are defining for the node in the Quantity field.
      Note: You must add all of the node ports.
    2. Select FC Switch fabric (P-P) from the Attachment Port Type list.
    3. Click Add.
    4. Select Group ports to share a common set of volumes.
    5. Click Next.
      The Define host WWPN page is displayed.
  5. Specify a WWPN for each system node port that you are configuring. After you define all system node port WWPNs, click Next.
  6. Complete the following steps in the Specify storage units page.
    1. Select all the available storage units that use the ports that you defined in step #svc_ds6000configuring_2sih41/ports.
    2. Click Add to move the selected storage units to the Selected storage units field.
    3. Click Next.
      The Specify storage units parameters page is displayed.
  7. Complete the following steps in the Specify storage units parameters page.
    1. Select a host attachment identifier from the table.
    2. Click the following specific storage unit I/O ports in the This host attachment can login to field.
      The available ports are displayed in the Available storage unit I/O ports table.
    3. Select each port in the Available storage unit I/O ports table.
      Note: The Type for each port must be FcSf. If the listed type is not FcSf, click Configure I/O Ports. The Configure I/O Ports page is displayed. Click the port that you want to configure and select Change to FcSf from the Select Action list.
    4. Click Apply assignment.
    5. Click OK.
      The Verification page is displayed.
  8. Verify that the attributes and values that are displayed in the table are correct.
    • If the values are correct, click Finish.
    • If the values are not correct, click Back to return to the previous pages and change the values that are not correct.
