Installing host bus adapter drivers for HP 9000 and HP Integrity servers

After you install the host bus adapter (HBA), you must download and configure the appropriate HBA driver.

Complete the following tasks to install the HBA driver:

  1. Obtain the appropriate HBA driver by using the following steps:
    1. Go to the supported hardware list on the following websites. Find the sections for the HP operating system, and the HBA that is installed on your host.

      The specific versions of the driver are indicated on the hardware list.

    2. Note the version number of the driver.
    3. Obtain the driver from Hewlett-Packard.
  2. Install the driver according to the documentation that is provided with the driver.

After you install the adapters and drivers, you can verify their status by using the fcmsutil /dev/tdx command, where x is the number of the adapter, which normally begins with 0.

After storage is configured and mapped to the host, you can discover the disks by running the ioscan -f -n command. The disks are discovered as IBM 2145 disks, and the number of discovered devices depends on the number of adapters and zoned paths to the Lenovo Storage V series system.

Note: On HP-UX 11iv3 September 2007 (11.31.0709) and later updates, LUN0 must be defined as the CCL (Command Control LUN) for the remaining disks to be recognized. Subsequent HP-UX 11iv3 required updates, PHKL_37453, PHKL_37454, and PHCO_37483, are included in the HP-UX March 2008 GA Bundle 11.31.0803 [with FibrChanl-00 (td) and FibrChanl-01 (fcd) Fibre Channel Mass Storage Drivers remain 11.31.0709].

After discovering the disks, run the insf -e command to build the device nodes in the /dev/dsk and /dev/rdsk directories. You can then build your host disk devices by using the IBM System Storage® Multipath Subsystem Device Driver (SDD). For more information, see the SDD documentation.
