If a Lenovo Storage V series node canister is inaccessible
through your administrative network, use this procedure to connect
a personal computer directly to the node canister to access the service
assistant.
This procedure starts the initialization tool if the enclosure
is not part of a system because the following conditions are true:
- The node canister is in candidate state.
- No system details are configured.
- The partner node is not in active state.
Otherwise, this procedure starts the service assistant.
To connect a personal computer directly to the node canister,
complete the following steps:
- Configure DHCP on the Ethernet port of the personal computer
to connect to the node canister.
If the personal computer cannot support DHCP, configure static
IPv4 address 192.168.0.2 on the port.
- On Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 or Lenovo
Storage V3700 V2 XP systems, re-enable port 2 to be the technician port.
Create a USB flash drive that contains a
satask.txt command file. Refer to
Using a USB flash drive for more details. Add the following entry
to the
satask.txt file.
satask chserviceip-techport enable -force
Note: Lenovo Storage V5030 systems have a dedicated technician port that is always enabled.
- Connect an Ethernet cable between the port on the personal
computer and the technician port.
On Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 or Lenovo
Storage V3700 V2 XP systems, port 2 on the 1 Gbps Ethernet card is the technician port.
On Lenovo Storage V5030 systems, the technician port is labeled T on the rear of the node canister. See Technician port for more information.
- Open a supported web browser on the personal computer and
browse to this URL:
- Complete the appropriate procedure.
- If the initialization tool opens, complete the initialization
as described in the installation procedure.
- If the service assistant dialog opens, use it to service the
node canister.
Note: When you connect to the configuration node
of an active cluster, the management GUI opens. On a partner node,
the service assistant GUI opens.
- Log out of the service assistant.
- Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the technician port.
- On Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 and Lenovo
Storage V3700 V2 XP systems, enter the following command to disable the technician
port. The system does not automatically disable the technician port
when service is complete.
satask chserviceip-techport disable
Port 2 can then
be used again to provide extra Ethernet connectivity for system management,
iSCSI, or IP replication.
