Installing a heat sink retention module

Use this information to install a heat sink retention module.

To install a heat sink retention module, complete the following steps:

1. Read the safety information that begins on Safety and Installation guidelines.
2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables.
3. Remove the cover (see Removing the cover).
4. Remove the applicable air baffles (see Removing the DIMM air baffle and Removing the microprocessor 2 air baffle).
5. Align the retention module with the holes on the system board.
6. Use a screwdriver to reinstall the four screws that you removed earlier.

7. Reinstall the microprocessor and heat sink (see Installing a microprocessor and heat sink).
8. Reinstall the air baffle.
9. Install the cover (see Installing the cover).
10. Slide the server into the rack.
11. Reconnect the power cords and any cables that you removed.
12. Turn on the peripheral devices and the server.
