Logical units and target ports on HP P2000 G3 systems

The HP P2000 G3 system has a maximum LUN size of 60 TB.

LUNs

A volume is referenced by the volume name.

HP P2000 G3 can export 512 LUNs to the Lenovo Storage V7000 system (limit). Lenovo Storage V7000 supports greater than 2 TB LUNs.

The HP P2000 G3 array or Vdisk can be partitioned as volumes. A one-to-one Vdisk-to-volume size is normally used for presentation to Lenovo Storage V7000.

LUN IDs

The HP P2000 G3 systems identify exported logical units through SCSI identification descriptor type 3. The 64-bit NAA IEEE Registered Extended Identifier (NAA=6) for the logical unit is in the form 6-OUI-VSID. The HP P2000 G3 IEEE company ID is 00C0FF (Dot Hill). The remaining part of the company ID is a vendor-specific ID.

Example of HP P2000 G3 svc mdisk output:

Configuring HP including logical drives and hosts

Settings are in general default unless specified.

To create HP P2000 G3 Vdisks, select requirements as appropriate. In the GUI, select Configuration View > Logical > Vdisks. For example, if you create 4 + P RAID-5 arrays with a spare and 1:1 mapping to volumes, Lenovo Storage V7000 data is stripped across all the LUNs in the controller storage pool. For performance and robustness, much larger disk-member arrays (Vdisks) are not recommended.

The HP P2000 G3 LUNS are default volume-mapped to all ports on the controller. This mapping is useful if the controller is separately zoned only to the Lenovo Storage V7000 nodes. Otherwise time consuming, individual mapping of each Lenovo Storage V7000 port is required. The LUNS cannot be shared. Access must be limited to Lenovo Storage V7000 ports only.

To detect a controller, it might be necessary to run the svctask detectmdisk and svcinfo lsdiscoverystatus commands.

Select the standard host profile and FC host type. VDisk spin-down is not supported as unresponsive MDisks can result in taking storage pools offline.

To modify, resize, or remove a LUN, the LUN must be removed from any Lenovo Storage V7000 storage pool and be in an unmanaged state first.
Note:
  1. Make sure that the MDisk is unmanaged (removed from any storage pool) on the Lenovo Storage V7000 system before you delete the LUN on the HP P2000 G3storage system.
  2. Do not expand dynamic arrays on LUNs that are in use by a Lenovo Storage V7000 system. For arrays to be recognized by Lenovo Storage V7000, the MDisk must be first made unmanaged by migrating or deleting the LUN from the storage pool.

LUN presentation

LUNs are exported through the available FC ports of the HP P2000 G3storage system. Configure these LUNs as default mapping or explicit.

Special LUNs

There are no special considerations for logical unit numbering. LUN 0 can be exported where necessary.

Target ports

A HP P2000 G3storage system has a total of four 8 GB Fibre Channel ports.

LU access model

All systems are Active/Active. To avoid an outage from system failure, cross connect the ports across Fibre Channel switches. Because all model HP P2000 G3storage systems are equal in priority, there is no benefit to using an exclusive set for a specific LU.

LU preferred access port

There are no preferred access ports on the model HP P2000 G3 as all ports are Active/Active across all systems.

Detecting Ownership

Detecting ownership does not apply to model HP P2000 G3.
