Configuring LenovoStorwize V3500 or Storwize V3700 external storage systems

Lenovo Storage V7000 systems can support Storwize® V3500 or Storwize V3700 systems for use as external storage.

The Storwize V3500 or Storwize V3700 system must be configured as a storage layer system, which is the default setting. See the System layers topic for further details.

Tasks to configure the Storwize V3500 or Storwize V3700storage system

To configure storage for use by a Lenovo Storage V7000, follow these general tasks on a Storwize family system:

  1. First define a host object and add all of the worldwide port names (WWPNs) from the Lenovo Storage V7000 to it.
  2. Create host mappings between each volume on the storage system that you want to manage by using the Storwize V3700 and the host object that you have created.

The volumes that are presented by the storage layer system appear in the Lenovo Storage V7000 managed disk (MDisk) view. The storage system appears in the Lenovo Storage V7000 view with a vendor ID of IBM.

Quorum disks on storage systems

The Storwize V3500 or Storwize V3700 support quorum disks. Lenovo Storage V7000 systems can use MDisks that are presented by a Storwize family system as a quorum disk.

Advanced functions for storage systems

Lenovo Storage V7000 systems can use storage that is presented by a Storwize V3500 or Storwize V3700 system in a storage layer, but Metro Mirror and Global Mirror cannot interoperate between the two systems. Lenovo Storage V7000 can participate in Metro Mirror and Global Mirror partnerships only with other replication layer systems and storage layer systems can participate in Metro Mirror and Global Mirror partnerships only with other storage layer systems.

See the HyperSwap, Metro Mirror and Global Mirror partnerships topic for more information.

Volumes that are defined on a storage layer system can be used by the replication layer system as a source or target for advanced copy functions such as FlashCopy, Metro Mirror, and Global Mirror. Storwize V3500 or Storwize V3700 advanced copy functions are not supported for volumes that are used as MDisks.
