Adding a control enclosure to an existing Lenovo Storage V5030 system

A Lenovo Storage V5030 system can cluster with another Lenovo Storage V5030 system or with a Lenovo Storage V series system. To add a second control enclosure to an existing Lenovo Storage V5030 system, you must first install it in the rack. Then, you must connect it to the system through a zone in the SAN.

The management GUI requires a supported web browser (see Checking your web browser settings for the management GUI).
Note: You cannot cluster a second control enclosure with a Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 or Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 XP system.

To add a second control enclosure to an existing Lenovo Storage V5030 system, complete the following steps.

  1. Install support rails for the new enclosure.
  2. Install the new enclosure in the rack.
  3. Connect the canisters to the storage area network.
  4. Configure the zoning on the SAN switches.
The correct zoning provides a way for the Fibre Channel or FCoE ports to connect to each other.
  5. Run the following command to erase the enclosure vital product data (vpd).
    satask chvpd-resetclusterid
  6. Wait until both nodes are online again, and then start the management GUI.
Typically, it takes a few minutes before both nodes are online again.
  7. Go to Monitoring > System.
  8. In the management GUI, select Monitoring > System. On the System -- Overview page, select Add Enclosure. When a new enclosure is cabled correctly to the system, the Add Enclosures action automatically displays on the System -- Overview page. If this action does not appear, review the installation instructions to ensure the new enclosure is cabled correctly. You can also add a new enclosure by selecting Add Enclosure from the System Actions menu.
  9. Continue to follow the on-screen instructions.
