Sharing the HDS Lightning 99xxV between a host and the system

There are restrictions for sharing an HDS Lightning 99xxV between a host and the system.

Sharing ports

The HDS Lightning 99xxV can be shared between a host and the system under the following conditions:
  • The same host cannot be connected to both the system and an HDS Lightning at the same time because the Hitachi HiCommand Dynamic Link Manager (HDLM) and the Subsystem Device Driver (SDD) cannot coexist.
  • A controller port cannot be shared between a host and the system. If a controller port is used by the system, it must not be present in a switch zone that allows a host to access the port.
  • Logical units (LUs) cannot be shared between a host and the system.

Supported Topologies

You can connect the system to the HDS Lightning under the following conditions:
  • For system software version 4.2.1 and later, you can connect a maximum of 16 HDS Lightning ports to the system without any special zoning requirements.
  • For the system, you can connect a maximum of 16 HDS Lightning ports to the system without any special zoning requirements.
  • For system software version 4.2.0, the following conditions apply:
    • Logical Unit Size Expansion (LUSE) and Virtual LVI/LUN operations cannot be run on a disk that is managed by the system. LUNs that are created by using LUSE and Virtual LVI/LUN can be mapped to the system after they are created.
    • Only disks with open emulation can be mapped to the system.
    • IBM z Systemsdisks cannot be used with the system.
    • Only Fibre Channel connections can connect the system to the HDS Lightning.
