iSCSI guest OS initiator

Configuration of a VMware host includes understanding several requirements that relate to the iSCSI guest OS initiator.

VMware recognizes the guest OS as an application and provides a link between the guest OS and the target. The VMware iSCSI initiator itself does not process any actions.

Before you use the iSCSI initiator of the guest OS, ensure that the following items are true:

When the network is configured, you can start iSCSI discovery and logging activities by using the iSCSI initiator of the guest OS. You can also use a multipathing driver from the guest OS to handle IP path failure.

For installation and use of iSCSI initiator, see the iSCSI installation topic for your operating system.

There is no change in the commands and setup concerning the guest OS iSCSI initiator; it uses the commands that are used by the operating system.

Note: Only Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) V5.4 is supported as a guest OS initiator with VMware.
