Completing the hardware location chart

Planning for the physical location includes documenting the rack locations of the enclosures and other devices that are based on the requirements of each device.

The hardware location chart represents the rack into which the Lenovo Storage V series enclosures are installed. Each row of the chart represents one Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) 19-inch wide by 1.75-inch tall rack space or unit, each of which is commonly referred to as 1U of the rack. As you design your Lenovo Storage V series rack, use Table 1 to record the physical configuration of the 2U Lenovo Storage V series enclosure, and other devices in your system.

If the rack contains sufficient space, plan to install the control enclosure in the middle of the rack to minimize the length of the SAS cables (required to connect expansion enclosures to the control enclosure).

A clustered system is a collection of control enclosures that are managed as a single system. Each control enclosure contains two node canisters. The two node canisters within the control enclosure form the node pair that attaches to the SAN fabric.

Note: The Lenovo Storage V series system supports control enclosures and expansion enclosures as follows. The drive types that are supported in the LFF and SFF enclosures are different, so the enclosure "FF" type depends on what drives are required. A Lenovo Storage V5030 system can have up to two chains of expansion enclosures.
  • Only a Lenovo Storage V5030 system can comprise a maximum of two control enclosures. Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 and Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 XP systems cannot be clustered with another control enclosure.
  • For Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 - port 1 for expansion enclosure, 9 expansion enclosures maximum (10 expansion enclosures will be available after version 7.8.1.3)
  • For Lenovo Storage V3700 V2 XP - port 1 for expansion enclosure, 9 expansion enclosures maximum (10 expansion enclosures will be available after version 7.8.1.3)
  • For Lenovo Storage V5030 - ports 1 and 2 for expansion enclosure, 10 expansion enclosures maximum for each chain.
