Creating the VMkernel

You must create a VMkernel to assign I/O traffic to a vSwitch.

Perform the following steps to create a VMkernel:
  1. From the vSphere Client, select the vSwitch.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Click VMkernel and click Next.
  5. Select Use the following IP settings and enter the IP values that you want to assign to the VMkernel, and then click Next.
  6. Click Finish to complete the procedure.
This VMkernel is used for the iSCSI traffic.
To test the configuration, access the target node and ping the internal IPs that belong to the service console of the VMkernel. You can also test the configuration from the guest OS by pinging the target IPs.
