Configuring NetApp FAS systems

To use this external storage, you must configure the Network Appliance (NetApp) Fibre-attached Storage (FAS) systems for attachment to a Lenovo Storage V series. Models of the NetApp FAS system are equivalent to the IBM^® N5000 series and the IBM^® N7000 series; therefore, the Lenovo Storage V series also supports models of the IBM^® N5000 series and the IBM^® N7000 series.

Attention: You must configure NetApp FAS systems in single-image mode.

The information in this section also applies to the supported models of the IBM^® N5000 series and the IBM^® N7000 series.

Supported models of the NetApp FAS system
The Lenovo Storage V series supports models of the NetApp FAS200, FAS900, FAS3000 and FAS6000 series of systems.
Supported firmware levels for the NetApp FAS
The NetApp FAS must use a firmware level that is supported by the Lenovo Storage V series.

Ensure that you are familiar with the user interface applications that support the NetApp FAS.

For the NetApp FAS systems, a logical unit (LU) is a subdirectory in an internal file system.

Switch zoning limitations for NetApp FAS systems
There are limitations in switch zoning for Lenovo Storage V series clustered systems and NetApp FAS systems.
Concurrent maintenance on the NetApp FAS
Concurrent maintenance is the capability to complete I/O operations to a NetApp FAS while simultaneously completing maintenance operations on it.
Quorum disks on the NetApp FAS
The Lenovo Storage V series can use logical units (LUs) that are exported by the NetApp FAS as quorum disks.
Advanced functions for the NetApp FAS
The Lenovo Storage V series copy and migration functions are supported for logical units (LUs) that are presented by the NetApp FAS. Advanced functions on the NetApp FAS are not supported. In particular, only Space Reserved LUNs can be used. If you need to use thin-provisioned disks, use thin-provisioned volumes at the Lenovo Storage V series level (see the mkvdisk -rsize option).
